Why the cheapest play order still needs pacing
A play count is the first number Spotify's algorithmic playlists read about a track in its release window, and stream velocity — how fast the count climbs after release — is one of the signals Spotify for Artists names alongside saves and playlist adds. That is the good news for a cheap order: the signal does not know what you paid per play. The bad news is that the same velocity, delivered in a single hour, is exactly the shape Spotify's artificial-streaming detection is built to flag. Spotify's User Guidelines prohibit artificial streaming, flagged tracks can be removed or have streams withheld, and since 2024 distributors can be charged per flagged track. Since April 2024 a track needs at least 1,000 streams in the trailing 12 months before it generates recorded-music royalties at all, a play from a free-tier listener account pays a fraction of a Premium stream, and any stream Spotify classifies as artificial pays nothing. No seller can offer one, and the ones who advertise "100% safe" or "royalty-eligible" bought plays are promising something Spotify's rules do not let them promise.
