The diagnosis

Meta's ranked comments explainer says a viewer's own comments, their friends' and the author's sit at the top of a thread, and the rest are scored on signals "including the relevance of the comment to the post and how popular the comment is among all viewers". That is the mechanical case for writing your own text: relevance to the post is a stated input, and a line that answers what your post actually said scores better on it than a generic emoji string.
What this does not do. It does not buy reach, position or a fixed weighting. Meta publishes no comment-versus-like multiplier, and the same explainer cuts against the idea: because Feed ranking is personalised, "the relative impact of each prediction model on Feed will vary depending on the person and the content". Treat any specific figure as invented. Meta said in April 2025 that comments it detects as coordinated fake engagement "will be seen less". Comments are one input among many, not a lever.
